Comparison between iMSD and 2D-pCF analysis for molecular motion studies on in vivo cells: The case of the epidermal growth factor receptor.

2018

Image correlation analysis has evolved to become a valuable method of analysis of the diffusional motion of molecules in every points of a live cell. Here we compare the iMSD and the 2D-pCF approaches that provide complementary information. The iMSD method provides the law of diffusion and it requires spatial averaging over a small region of the cell. The 2D-pCF does not require spatial averaging and it gives information about obstacles for diffusion at pixel resolution. We show the analysis of the same set of data by the two methods to emphasize that both methods could be needed to have a comprehensive understanding of the molecular diffusional flow in a live cell.

Correlation of brain white matter diffusion anisotropy and mean diffusivity with reaction time in an oddball task.

2008

<i>Background:</i> Reaction time (RT) is a frequently used measure of information processing speed, but the underlying physiological and anatomical conditions are not yet fully understood. A correlation between measures of white matter (WM) ultrastructural properties and RT is expected – particularly for those WM tracts that are involved in the attentional system of the brain. <i>Methods:</i> Diffusion tensor imaging data were acquired in 43 unrelated healthy subjects (age: 22.7 ± 1.8 years), and RT was measured during an attention-requiring visual oddball task in the same scanning session. Voxel-by-voxel and region of interest analyses were performed for the large a…

PFG n.m.r. study of diffusion anisotropy in oriented ZSM-5 type zeolite crystallites

1991

ZSM-5 zeolite crystallites are oriented by introducing them into a system of parallel capillaries. In this way, by applying pulsed-field gradient (PFG) n.m.r., a direct measurement of the orientation dependence of diffusion in ZSM-5 crystals has become possible. Using methane as a diffusant, the ratio D xy /D z between the diffusivities in the xy plane and in the z direction has been found to be of the order of 4.5. This value is in satisfactory agreement with the behavior expected from both MD calculations and a random walk model of molecular propagation in the two-channel network of ZSM-5-type zeolites.

Anisotropic carrier diffusion in single MAPbI(3) grains correlates to their twin domains

2020

Polycrystalline thin films and single crystals of hybrid perovskites – a material group successfully used for photovoltaic and optoelectronic applications – reportedly display heterogeneous charge carrier dynamics often attributed to grain boundaries or crystalline strain. Here, we locally resolved the carrier diffusion in large, isolated methylammonium lead iodide (MAPbI3) grains via spatial- and time-resolved photoluminescence microscopy. We found that the anisotropic carrier dynamics directly correlate with the arrangement of ferroelastic twin domains. Comparing diffusion constants parallel and perpendicular to the domains showed carriers diffuse around 50–60% faster along the parallel d…

Assessment of lung microstructure with magnetic resonance imaging of hyperpolarized Helium-3

2005

Magnetic resonance imaging of the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) of hyperpolarized Helium-3 is a new technique for probing pulmonary microstructure in vivo. The aim of this study was the assessment of potential sources of systematic errors of the ADC measurement. The influence of macroscopic motion was determined by measurements at two different delays after initiating the breath-hold, and before and after cardiac arrest. An intercentre comparison was performed in two age- and lung function-matched groups of lung-healthy volunteers at two research sites. Moreover, measurements of diffusion anisotropy were performed. We found no dependency of the ADC as a function of the delay after st…
